The IGEA BT and PHOBOS BT A units (the 24V articulated-arm models common on Scottsdale’s 12-16 foot iron driveway gates) use a 25mm hinge pin with a polymer-bushed roller captured in a zinc-plated yoke. The heavier ARES BT A and ARES ULTRA BT A series step up to a 30mm pin and a sealed roller bearing rated for gates to 1,600 pounds. Signs Your BFT Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing

• The gate stalls at the same angle every cycle. The roller has flat-spotted or the polymer bushing has worn eccentric, creating a dead spot where the hinge pin binds against the yoke. The BFT control board registers this as an obstruction and reverses or stops.
• Grinding or squealing during the first or last 15 degrees of travel. The roller bearing has lost its grease seal to dust intrusion. Scottsdale’s caliche dust is particularly abrasive once it mixes with whatever grease remains.
• Visible rust weeping from the hinge pin or yoke. The zinc plating has failed at a stress point, usually where the yoke wraps the roller. Water gets in during our July monsoon storms, freezes rarely but expands, and the corrosion accelerates.
• The gate has dropped visibly on one side. The hinge pin has worn undersize or the yoke has elongated, allowing the gate leaf to settle. This puts side load on the BFT operator arm and will eventually damage the internal gearbox.
• Intermittent “Obstacle Detected” faults with nothing in the path. The operator’s current-sensing algorithm reads the extra amp draw from a binding hinge as an obstruction. Replacing the motor board won’t fix this; the hinge is lying to the sensor.
